Need a general practice appointment about something other than coronavirus?
Here’s what to do:
- Contact the practice, either online, by an app or by phone.
- You will be assessed and as far as possible you will receive advice or care online or over the phone.
- If a face-to-face appointment is necessary, you will be advised on what to do.
Please DO NOT enter the practice unless you’ve been advised to.
This will ensure we can continue to provide essential care safely.

GOT SYMPTOMS?
If you have been told to self-isolate, or if you or anyone in your household has recent onset of any of the following symptoms:
- a high temperature;
- a loss of, or change in normal sense of smell or taste (anosmia); or
- a new and continuous cough – even if it’s mild.
DO NOT ENTER THE PRACTICE
Head straight home and avoid public transport if possible.
Once home, follow the self-isolation advice on nhs.uk/coronavirus and check your symptoms via the 111 online coronavirus service – follow the specialist medical advice and find out how to get tested.
Only call 111 if you can’t get online, you’ve been instructed to, or your symptoms worsen.

Important information about the coronavirus (COVID-19)
The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.
The latest information on symptoms of Coronovirus infection and areas where recent travel may have resulted in a high risk of exposure can be found on nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need medical help and advise you what to do.
Use this service if:
- you think you might have coronavirus;
- in the last 14 days you've been to a country or area with a high risk of coronavirus;
- you've been in close contact with someone with coronavirus.
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Call 111 if you need to speak to someone.
Like the common cold, coronavirus infection usually occurs through close contact with a person with novel coronavirus via cough and sneezes or hand contact. A person can also catch the virus by touching contaminated surfaces if they do not wash their hands.
Testing of suspected coronavirus cases is carried out in line with strict guidelines. This means that suspected cases are kept in isolation, away from public areas of GP surgeries, pharmacies and hospitals and returned home also in isolation. Any equipment that come into contact with suspected cases are thoroughly cleaned as appropriate. Specific guidance has also been shared with NHS staff to help safeguard them and others. Patients can be reassured that their safety is a top priority, and are encouraged to attend all appointments as usual.
Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:
- Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

Welcome to Wanstead Place Surgery. We are a modern GP surgery, with a team of 2 female and 2 male doctors and 1 practice nurse. As a training practice we have 2 further GP registrars. We are actively involved in teaching students from Barts & The London University. We always aim to provide a very high standard care for our patients in dealing with current illnesses and preventative healthcare.
Our doctors, nurses and reception staff are trained and very experienced in dealing with all aspects of family medicine. It is our policy to endeavour to obtain the best medical treatment for our patients utilising the latest in technology and specialist options.
Our nursing staff are experienced in the management of chronic disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma and women's health. They run various clinics including child and adult vaccination and cervical smears for all eligible woman aged 25-65.

Why does my practice close some Wednesdays?
Keeping up to date with new treatments and techniques is really important in the NHS. Once a month - usually on a Wednesday morning - our GPs go to training events to help make sure that you are getting the very best care possible.
The surgery is closed between 8.30am to 1.30pm on these days.
On these days we have a limited service here at the practice, but you can still be seen by our out of hours service during this time. If you need to see a doctor before our surgery is open again please call 0330 100 4471.
